Here we go again. Bajaj does a ‘classic’ again. It all seems that the 2001 era is back. We have seen it, now experience the exhilarating performance biking in the form of carbureted Pulsar 220.With the launch of this bike Bajaj has made it clear that they would not bow down to any better known manufacturers (read Yamahas). A few months back Yamaha did it with a technical supremacy in the name of R15, now Bajaj follows with some ‘never-seen-before-on-Indian-bikes’ performance figures. With this launch Bajaj has showcased their brilliant engineering prowess which can give tremors to any bigger known Japanese makers.
If we date back a few years; November 2001 was the month which probably would go down in the Indian history which marked the entry of ‘affordable performance’ bikes in India with the launch of classic Pulsars.
Performance and technology doesn’t mean anything if they are not affordable. Bajaj has always been proactive in giving tremors to competitors and here comes a bigger one! Enter the new 2009 edition Pulsar 220 DTSi. Bajaj today launched the much hyped and probably the most awaited and an all important launch of this year-The biggest Pulsar from its stables, the Pulsar 220. This bike is much more than just a non-Fuel Injected version of the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. Read on for all the changes made to this bike which take it to a different league altogether.
Changes In The New Model:

  1. Carbureted: In a lovely attempt to provide performance to masses (by reducing costs) yet keeping mandatory things in mind, Bajaj has dispensed off with the Fuel Injector of Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. Now the bike comes loaded with Indias biggest 32mm Ucal UCD 32 venturi carburetor in place of the Delphi-supplied throttle body type fuel injection system in the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi.
  2. Power Output: The power output of the bike has risen from 20 Ps (@8500 rpm) of the DTS-Fi to a whooping 21.04 PS at the same rpm figures, a full horsepower more than the fuel injected mill in turn breaking the 20 bhp jinx which we were stuck to for quite a long time. Torque figures remain the same at 19.12 Nm but the carbureted Pulsar does it in 7000 rpm which is 500 rpms more than the fuel injected version. This also ensures the revvy nature of the engine with abundant torque available all through the curve.
  3. New Piston: Keeping the cylinder dimensions same at 67 * 62.4 mm, the piston now comes in a new screen printed graphite based Malycote material which helps in reducing friction between the piston and the cylinder walls and also improves upon the engine’s anti-seizure traits.
  4. Oval Pent Roof Combustion Chamber: The bike also gets an oval shaped roof combustion chamber which enables to maximize the charge density of the flame propagation path which ensures maximum combustion even with leaner air-fuel ratios.
  5. Larger Air Cooler: The engine remains air-cooled as in DTS-Fi but needs to maintain a steady cool temperature now gets a larger air-cooler on this bike with 33 percent more cooling area which ensures that the bike runs cool even under high temperatures.
  6. All New Ignition System: The bike also incorporates an all new ignition system with engine temperature sensors built into the cylinder head to aid a rider in a perfect ride without any loss of torque or any flat spots.
  7. All New Auto Choke: With this version Bajaj has to ensure that the user doesn’t suffer from cold starting problems with the bike, now a carbureted version. To counter this possible issue, this bike comes loaded with an auto-choke which enables the bike to start in coldest of environments with ease.
  8. All New Clutch Assembly: The biggest issue with the earlier iterations of the Pulsar series was the lack of clutch responsiveness and the lack of feel from the clutch under slightest of loads. Seems like Bajaj has paid a special attention on this front and the bike sports an all completely enclosed clutch supplied by FCC Riko. The bike has a reported slick and much better feel than the earlier iterations which makes the bike even better to ride.
  9. All New Gearbox Internals: Adding to the new clutch system, Bajaj has ensured that all the known issues are rectified. This gearbox, which is one of the biggest problems for Bajaj, has been overhauled with some major component changes. The bike is reported to slickest Pulsar till date.
  10. All-Black Theme: The bike gets an all-black theme with black alloys, engine, swingarm and forks from other iterations of the same stable and makes the bike look a killer.
  11. Soft Compound Tyres: The bike comes loaded with the R15 reminiscent soft compound tubeless tyres which make the bike a dream to handle while on corners and also makes sure the bike is planted under extreme or harsh braking. The tyres remain the same size with the front being 90/90 * 17 and rear being a meaty 120/80 * 17 which also aids to the overall killer looks of the bike.
  12. New Designed Logo: The bike also gets a metallic protruded Pulsar logo reminiscent to the new Pulsar 180 2009 edition. It also gets a revamped clip-on handle bar along with a redesigned console background.
  13. Catalytic Converter: The bike, now, with the exclusion of Fuel injector, incorporates a catalytic converter to absorb the harmful gases from the exhaust and in turn making sure that the bike meets the soon to be enforced Bharat Stage 4 Pollution Norms.
Performance:
Here we are talking about the most talked about feature of the bike, its performance. Bajaj calls this bike ‘The Fastest India’ and the bike’s traits lead us to believe every bit of it. Zero to sixty dash comes in lesser than 4 seconds! It is a huge more than half a second faster than its fuel injected sibling. Zero to hundred is achieved in around 11.5 seconds and this is a whooping two seconds faster to the DTS-Fi. Add to this the true top speed of the bike is reported at close to 140 kmph with the Speedo reading in excess of 145kmph. Now that’s fast by any standards and furious in Indian standards.
The bike lives upto its claim of being the fastest bike in the country and with a great margin, the brilliant tech-laden R15 included! Roll on times reported for DTSi are a tad slower than DTS-Fi, thanks to the latter’s more emphasis on low and mid range torque but flip the throttle and here you go astride the fastest Indian bike in production today in the country on the DTSi. With some scorching figures like this, not much is expected out of the mileage figures of this bike, but wait……! There is more to it than what seems evident. Expect the bike to return a handsome mileage of something in the range of 35-40 kmpl on real road conditons and this by any means are great figures. The engine roar has also been made gruntier and the self starter note also has a sweet muscular note to start with.
Along with all the above listings the bike gets all the typical pulsar goodies like the Exhaustec, lovely power and torque at all rpms, cheaper spare parts, projector headlamps, a 12W 9Ah maintenance free battery, dual horns, Wolf-eyed front semi fairing, rear Nitrox shock absorbers which do their job with near perfection.
With this bike, Bajaj has again produced a winner, more so with keeping the bike in direct competition to a newly-born Apache RTR 180, Yamaha YZF R15, Yamaha FZ series, Hero Honda Karizma. For sure, all the mentioned bikes will face the heat with the aggressive launch of this bike. This bike is set sure for turning the fortunes of Bajaj. Great move Bajaj! Let’s see how this bike fares in the market. If you are looking at a screaming performer at an affordable price, than there is no bike in the market which could match the practicality and “Value for Money –ness” of this bike. Bajaj Pulsar 200 DTSi was introduced in the market around 9 months back and it enthralled the Bajaj dealers by raking sales as well as the Indian bike enthusiasts. The bike has a 200cc engine and oil cooler, which is a self-adjustable one- it adjusts the viscosity of the lubricant oil so the overall performance of the bike is enhanced. The shock absorbing quality is enhanced by a large 33mm front fork.

Pulsar 200 bike has other wooing features such as a stylish petrol tank flap along with an anti-scratch tank pad, ExausTEC technology in the silencer that maintains engine torque, comparatively light weight of the bike, the split seat with better seating space and excellent performance.
Looks: Bajaj Pulsar 200 DTSi is available in eye candy black, red and blue colors and looks deceive you like you got an international sports bike in front of you! Performance: Bajaj Pulsar 200 has a split seat architecture that provides better style and comfort for both rider and pilion. The bike has 200cc powerful engine and the telescopic fork provides better control. The display panel can detect failure in components. Both front and rear wheels have tubeless tyres that are first in the motorcycle market and the wheelbase is 1350mm. The triple rate spring NitroX shockers provide cushion feel and telescopic fork suspension.

The torque of the bike has been improved by ExhausTEC technology and the bike also has an improved clutch system. The gear can be changed easily and it is capable of taking more loads. The presence of oil cooler enhances the engine performance.

The engine has a maximum power of 18ps and you will get an average of 40 km per liter of petrol. The fuel tank has a capacity of 15 liters and has a capacity to store 2 liters of reserve petrol. The oil cooler improves the performance of the engine at high speeds without overheating. Bajaj two wheelers, especially the battery, need low maintenance. Under test condition the fuel efficiency is 50kms/ltr.
Final Verdict: The 18ps pulsating power generated by the 200cc engine provides great riding excitement to bikers, echo all of the Bajaj dealers . It is the first bike in India with tubeless tyres both in front and rear in this segment. The tubeless tyres offer superior stability that is safer than the conventional tube tyres while adding to fuel economy. Better road grip and stability is ensured by the very broad rear tyre. The bike has new digital console with Digital Odometer, Digital Speedo meter, Digital Fuel Gauge and two Digital Trio Meters. This Bajaj bike is the first one with electric start. And needless to say it is very convenient for a city rider. After all, we know the traffic jams right?

Ask me downside of this bike… Well, it doesn’t have a kick-start facility. So when the battery is down (keep looking at the indicator off and on my friend!) or fused out, God save you or you got to push it to a recharge facility!

We started out to give the 2005 R6 more horsepower and a new fork, and wound up engineering a nearly new motorcycle.

This utilitarian Japanese motorcycle will satisfy to all those who they will be looking for a motorcycle with more potency than a simple 125 cc and that allow them to maneuver easily through the city and highway. If besides of a reliable vehicle is pretty, what else can we ask for? perhaps a cheaper motorcycle ?

Yamaha YBR250 is powered by a fuel-injected, an air cooled 250cc four-stroke engine. This engine delivers power of 21.05 HP (15.4 kW) and torque of 20.70 Nm (2.1kgf-m or 15.3 ft.lbs) @ 2100 RPM. The five-speed transmission engine is perfect with TCI (digital) ignition. The power and torque are good combination in 250cc bike and also enough for commuter. The other good point for commuter is Yamaha YBR250 has the biggest fuel capacity in its class, 19 litre.

LAS VEGAS -Yamaha Motor memperkenalkan model terbaru YZF-R1. Motor yang mewarisi sebagian teknologi MotoGP ini, diluncurkan di Las Vegas Amerika Serikat. Empat pembalap MotoGP Yamaha, turut hadir dalam peluncuran ini.
Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Colin Edwards, dan James Toseland, menjadi saksi peluncuran motor sport 800 cc ini. Sebanyak 3.000 dealer Yamaha yang tersebar di seluruh Amerika Serikat turut meyesaki Mirage Hotel, lokasi peluncuran.

Model YZF dikalim mewarisi teknologi yang sama dari model MotoGP Yamaha M1. Saat keempat pembalap tersebut duduk di atasnya, mereka pun berkomentar seperti mengendarai motor mereka saat di sirkuit.

"Ini sepeda motor yang bagus, persis seperti M1 dan mengadopisi banyak fitur MotoGP. Sekarang MotoGP pun bisa dibawa di jalanan," komentar Valentino Rossi seperti dikutip Motorcycle News, Selasa (9/9/2008).

Komentar yang sama juga diberikan rekan satu tim Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo. Menurut pembalap yang dua kali menjuarai kelas 250cc ini, YZF-R1 akan menjadi sepeda motor model produksi yang populer.

New Emergency Light Concept
The new R 1200 RT-P features a completely new LED emergency lightingconcept developed by BMW and Code 3 PSE. The new system combinesall currently desired emergency lighting into optimally focused compactLED light modules. These modules accommodate an additional 45 degreefront LED module that blankets the front quadrants in emergency light.

Together with an integrated wiring harness and programmable flash controlmodule, the new system can provide any current flashing sequence /switching combination through settings on the programmable flasher. Example: If the motor will be used in California, program the flasher forsteady-burn left front LED light, with no change in the LED light or the wiring. If the motor is sold or operated in a different venue later, change the program flasher for 49 state operation.

The rear light module combines rear and side facing LED emergency lights, together with rear-facing brake/tail LED and side turn signal LED Light Additional rear facing LED emergency lights can be installed and powered in conjunction with the rear facing lights, or controlled by photo-eye to disable the lights during the dark to reduce glare at night / low light
situations.
The programmable flasher can provide 12 flash patterns, with wiring splitting the motor between left and right side for alternating flash patterns. Light sequencing begins with rear, programmable rear and front side lights, as well as front and 45 degree front lights. A rear cancel switch allows riders to disable the rear lights while retaining the side and front lights –
usually used for protective service details. The programmable flasher also provides for a primary and secondary flash pattern, so during code 3 operation, the emergency lights will display the primary pattern until the siren is activated, at which time the flasher changes to the alternative pattern for 7 seconds after each siren tone change. This feature known as InterClear provides a visual and audible alert to those nearby.

Note: the lights pictured are prototype units that are not fully optimized for visual or structural quality. Production units will provide precise accurate light location.

New BMW Police Saddlebags

BMW heard the requests of motor officers and developed a completely new saddlebag for police motors. The new 23 liter saddlebags are easily removable for service maintenance or cleaning (removes with two bolts). The lid is hinged at the front with an easy-to-operate rear latch (while seated on the motor) that is glovefriendly and can be locked with the ignition key.

Optional saddlebag liners will also be available along with an optional luggage net in
the lid for small item / rain gear storage. Replaceable color painted side panels can be repaired / replaced without having to replace the entire saddlebag, reducing the cost of accident damage repairs.

Special front protection bars made of stainless steel have integrated BMW / Code 3 siren speaker mounting, providing maximum protection during accidents. Integrated speaker mounting reduces weight, yielding a clean professional appearance.
New Police Speedometer
The new highly accurate easy-to-read police speedometer displays has a large numerical
display in the center of the information display, and through a locking button on the
right handlebar, can display that “locked” speed (33 mls/h), retaining that reading until
the next time a speed is locked in the display.
The new R 1200 RT-P cockpit surrounds the rider with useful information to perform their job with precision. All switch functions at your finger tips, proven handlebar controls and easy-to-ready information displays keep riders informed and in control. All switches and primary electrical connections now are completely waterproof to ensure long, trouble-free life.

Maintenance has never been easier. Basic engine maintenance intervals are 6,000 miles for oil service and adjustments, gearbox oil changes are at 24,000 mile, rear drive and fork oil are lifetime. Fuel filter is also now lifetime, again reducing maintenance even further.

Batteries are BMW gel maintenance-free 19 Ah batteries that recover well from deep-cycle
discharges. Service has been improved by a new protection bar system that provides full access to the front engine cover, as well as easier seat and fuel tank removal, easier access to batteries as well as protection bar removal.

Diberlakukannya Pajak Penambahan nilai Barang Mewah (PPnBM), PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia (KMI) menyikapinya dengan santai. Karena, sekalipun pemerintah bakal menaikkan batas atas PPnBM dari 75 persen menjadi 200 persen, harga jual tidak akan terpengaruh pada salah satu produk andalan KMI, Kawasaki Ninja 250.

"Produk yang kena PPnBM itu kan 250cc ke atas. Nah, Kawasaki Ninja kita kan kapasitas mesinnya 249 cc, masih di bawah 250cc. Jadi, harga jualnya tak akan terpengaruh," ujar National Sales Manager PT KMI Freddy Basuki kepada Kompas.com, jelang akhir pekan lalu.

Freddy menjelaskan, KMI sengaja mengimpor secara utuh (completely built up/CBU) dari Thailand karena pabriknya ada di Negeri Gajah Putih itu. Pihaknya memanfaatkan perjanjian regional Asean Free Trade Are (AFTA) sehingga hanya terbebani bea masuk (BM) sebesar 5 persen.

"Ini membuat harga yang kita tawarkan Rp48 juta masih masuk di masyarakat. Kalau dibuat CKD (completelty nock down) pasar di Indonesia masih belum masuk skala ekonomisnya. Jadi kita masih impor," lanjut Freddy.

Terkait rencana sejumlah ATPM lain yang akan bermain di segmen motor 250cc, KMI justru tak khawatir. Malah, merek motor yang identik dengan warna hijau muda itu menyambut baik karena akan mampu meningkatkan pasar yang ada.

Bila Kawasaki mengandalkan Thailand sebagai basis produksi 250cc-nya, tak demikian halnya dengan Yamaha dan Honda. Kedua raksasa pemimpin pasar motor nasional itu tak memiliki produk berkapasitas mesin 250cc di Thailand, sehingga harus mengimpor langsung dari Jepang atau negara lain.

Ada keuntung bila mendatangkan dari Jepang. Mereka bisa memanfaatkan perjanjian kerjasama bilateral antara Indonesia dan Jepang yang tertuang dalam Indonesian-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement(IJ-EPA) yang tengah berlangsung saat ini.

Sementara itu, Yamaha juga bisa memanfaatkan perjanjian kerjasama antara Asean dan India yang sudah ditandatangani tahun ini. Tapi, dengan catatan, harus mengimpor secara CKD ke Indonesia.

Ketika acara Grand Launching New KLX 150 S yang di adakan PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia (KMI) di Parkir Timur Senayan pada hari Sabtu 16 Mei 2009 ini, terasa ada sebuah keanehan.
Sebab, dari sekian motor Kawasaki yang dipamerkan di acara tersebut, ternyata ada sebuah produk yang absen hadir, yakni KLX 250.
Saudara kembar dari D-Tracker X ini sama sekali tidak ditampilkan PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia (KMI).
Padahal baik saudara kembarnya, D-Tracker X,  maupun produk Kawasaki lain seperti Ninja 250 R dan Athlete pun ikut nimbrung dalam peluncuran KLX 150 S ini.
Bahkan dari kaos panitia yang dikenakan pun nama KLX 250 sudah tidak ada lagi. Di bagian belakang kaos panitia acara bertema ‘The Art of Adventure’ hanyalah terdapat tulisan Kawasaki dengan produk unggulannya seperti Ninja 250 R, D-Tracker X, KLX 150 S serta Athlete.
Aura motor yang dibandrol dengan harga Rp 56,9 juta ini juga tidak terasa di sudut mana pun. Satu-satunya kehadiran motor macho berkapasitas 250 cc ini hanyalah di daftar harga produk Kawasaki yang di bagikan sales.
Apakah ini tanda hilangnya pamor KLX 250 baik di pasar otomotif nasional dan bahkan di mata KMI sendiri?
"Bisa jadi kalau sudah ada D-Tracker X ini, KLX 250 versi trailnya memang bakal ngga ada lagi," ujar seorang sales dealer Kawasaki kepada detikOto, Sabtu 16 Mei 2009 lalu.
Sebab menurut si sales, KLX 250 memang kurang beruntung di pasaran dan diharapkan versi supermotonya yakni D-Tracker X akan lebih berhasil.
"Karena itulah, kemungkinan untuk itu cukup besar," ungkapnya.
Padahal harga jual D-Tracker X di patok lebih mahal dari KLX 250 versi trail. Untuk memboyong supermoto ini, pembeli harus merogoh kocek lebih dalam untuk mendapatkannya yakni sekitar Rp 60 juta.
"Hanya saja model supermoto ini kan tampil lebih keren dari yang versi trail," tukas sang sales
